BEC bridges the gap between young professionals, industry stakeholders, and policymakers by offering opportunities for growth, innovation, and leadership in the blue economy. Here, the youth, youth leaders, and youth organizations connect, share ideas and opportunities, collaborate, and build capacity to meet their own needs and the evolving demands, ultimately addressing the sector’s challenges and building a prosperous blue economy (and blue future).
We also recognize that the sectors of the blue economy are deeply interconnected: therefore addressing challenges in isolation is ineffective. As such, BEC is also committed to functioning as a hub, providing a dynamic platform for youth leaders & youth-led organizations in the various sectors of the blue economy to connect and co-create: promoting integrated, cross-sectoral approaches and innovative solutions that elevate the entire ecosystem.
Also, unlike other fragmented initiatives that focus solely on environmental conservation or economic development, BEC merges environmental restoration, livelihood creation, and youth empowerment.
We are therefore committed to elevating the sector through 6 interconnected pillars:
Capacity Building
Providing training, workshops, webinars, and mentorship programs to equip youth (especially students) with industry-relevant knowledge & skills (check 'Events')
Environment & Community Impact
Delivering the design & implementation of projects & solutions, addressing key challenges & gaps (informed by research & extensive stakeholder engagements). See 'Projects'.
Opportunity Sharing
Through our Opportunities Thursday initiative, we have shared over 300+ jobs, scholarships, internships, grants (check 'Opportunities').
Innovation & Entrepreneurial Support
Spotlighting youth-led innovations, providing (access to) needed support, including collaborating on designing key industry-relevant innovations.
Networking & Collaboration
Championing peer-to-peer, cross-sectoral, and early-career-to-expert, and overall, youth-to-industry connections & co-creation.
Policy Advocacy
ThrStrategic advocacy through generating, translating, and scaling our insights to inform improved policy and practical reforms.
