Edem Letsu

Edem Letsu is a researcher in the Blue Economy and an advocate of resilient coastal ecosystems.

Currently, she is pursuing an MPhil in Blue Economy, Governance, and Social Resilience at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She also holds a BSc in Natural Resources Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Edem’s present research investigates the influence of financial incentives on the conservation of mangrove ecosystems in the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site in Ghana. She supported data collection for national agricultural programs at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and also interned at Iroko Consult, working closely on environmental and social impact assessments issues. In addition,she participated in the IUCN Inception Workshop to evaluate the management plan for the Keta Lagoon Complex Ramsar Site, where she contributed to stakeholder discussions and data collection. Her interdisciplinary background in marine governance, natural resource management, and socio-ecological resilience enables her to make a significant contribution to coastal sustainability initiatives. Passionate about the transformation of policy through science, Edem is dedicated to establishing a connection between research, community action, and governance in the development of sustainable, adaptive coastal systems in West Africa and across the world. Hence she brings this experience to co-lead Environmental & Community Impact at BEC, while also overseeing reporting in support of the M&E Team.
