Wonder Sekey
Wonder Sekey is a dedicated aquatic ecologist/conservationist who is currently a PhD candidate at the La Trobe University in Australia. He holds an MSc in Sustainable Aquaculture from the University of St Andrews and MPhil in Fisheries Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Wonder has broad experience in both marine and freshwater ecosystems. He previously worked as a Research Associate with AquaLife Conservancy, a Ghana based NGO focused on aquatic species conservation where he developed and executed conservation action plans, conducted field research on threatened fishes, and assisted the organisation with grant writing. As a Graduate Research Assistant, he continued to conduct research, wrote grant proposals, and contributed to development works on sustainable food systems at KNUST. He also served as a Research Consultant for AgroCenta leading a study that assessed the impact of a digital platform on farm productivity and farmer incomes. Showcasing his research prowess, Wonder has published six peer-reviewed scientific articles in top journals over the past five years. He has also won two prestigious grants including the Millennium Oceans Prize and the Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund. Wonder brings these multidisciplinary wealth of experience to Blue Economy Connect as the Research and Grants/Funding Co-lead, aiming to work to secure grants and develop evidence-based research solutions for resilient aquatic systems and sustainable blue economy.
